Vanessa’s culinary journey began as a cook in catering companies in and around the Toronto area. Desiring a deeper knowledge and understanding of food, she applied to the reputable Stratford Chefs School. The intense training and the opportunities that the school provided, led Vanessa to graduate with the Award of Culinary Excellence and a prestigious apprenticeship at one of Canada’s top restaurants, Scaramouche. It was there she honed her skills and her palate, to understand that sometimes simplicity is the road to perfection.
In 2006 Aphrodite Cooks, a catering company and cooking school was created. Her believe in spreading the love of good food has led her to cater for clients such as Kinross, Telus, Thomson Reuteurs and TJX Canada and provided corporate cooking class events for companies such as Savills Studley, Uber Canada, L’Oreal, Town Shoes, Sanofi Pasteur and St. Michael’s Hospital.
Through her cooking classes she has created a fun and entertaining date nights for couples and informative and hands on food workshops that explore different cooking techniques or ethnic cuisines.
In the summer of 2014 Vanessa and Aphrodite Cooks entered at the Harbourfront Centre’s China Now Dumpling Duel with her famous original creation of Ginger Chicken Potstickers. Vanessa’s dumplings were voted the best and crowned the Dumpling Duel Champion.
Food and cooking is a constant evolution but she will always recognize the power that it has to bring people together.
